time for my vacation. I look forward to seeing you all at the official launching of this site, and at the ballot polls. Hint hint. Haha -SDRoads

Post #3, and final, of the day

I give it a 5.4

If anyone wants a support group for the affects of the recent earthquake, as for the affects of facing surgery in the post below, please feel free to comment here, in your time. Thanxx, SDRoads

Hi everyone.

Well, Shane's surgery was a success!!! Even though the earthquake DID hit when he was in the surgical room! Fortunately, the doctor just finished up a moment before the earth started to take a roller coaster ride. He has the cutest, sweetest walk right now, just like an injured bird, which, by the way, I happened to see in the backyard. What an adorable little sparrow. Shanathan wobbles and limps, sweet little lamb. Soon, he will be back to his natural gate. Well, my moving is all finished, and my vacation starts tomorrow. Say a prayer for the sparrow... and all the children of the world who are facing surgery. By the way, I almost conked out while watching my son be put to sleep as I held his hand and wished him sweet dreams. LoL The anaesthesiologist explained to Shanathan that it smells like strawberries first, then it will smell like stinky sox (that's what the gas smells like.). Well, it was hard enough to watch your kid loose consciousness, but then, when I could smell the gas, too. He said, "Yes, it does seep out, but, it is so diluted it wont do anything." I thought, "Is that why my throat started to hurt, too (He told me that happens while breathing gas.)? I bursted out softly, "Well, I
don't want to fall asleep!!! Haha I stuck it out as long as I could, but, finally I uttered, "I have to leave!" You see, I am prone to anxiety attacks that can lead to panic attacks under extreme circumstances. My son had handled things very well. He was very brave. I had prepped him for the big day. I got some great shots, too. I had done surprisingly well, too, with the anxiety that lead to agoraphobia. I have even been able to take the buses, trains, as well as THE FREEWAY, without incident... and without my Citalopram or Lorazepam (Spell Check please!) Yaay! (I don't know how to spell 'em, I just know they work! Haha) Yep, I think I am almost cured. Thanxx for all of your prayers. More on this later, along with the great shots. Oh yeah, I have been asked for my approval to give the goahead on a project being done for children at the hospital. The new scrapbooks will be going out soon. I felt honored. I offered to buy the book I approved, before the others be donated out. They declined. I guess that was the prototype. If any of y'all have any one in your family facing surgery, tell your story here, in the comments section, immediately below. I will post a separate post for comments on Earthquake damage of our local 5.4 quake, who's number rolled (it went from 5.6 to 5.8 down to 5.4) nearly as fast as we rolled during the quake. LoL And that is my commentary. -SDRoads

GOD BLESS YOU SWEET BABY BOY...

... on your surgery tomorrow. I love you so very very much, Button. What happened at Friday's Field Trip was a most definite sign to me that you will be o.k. and come out unscathed. We need you. We want you. Your whole family loves you. Love, Mom

Prayers welcome. I thank you. -SDRoads

... Perhaps a little Sports Trivia? Someday... Something I realized today that this site does not have, less the advice on gettin' your daily exercise. But, that can only carry the site so far. Haha So, to start, I'd like to share something interesting I found on one Mr, Jeffrey Howard Cirillo late last night, during my research for my site. Here we go: I hope you like it:

Career highlights and awards
2x All-Star selection (1997, 2000)

Jeffrey Howard Cirillo (born September 23, 1969 in Pasadena, California) is a former third baseman in Major League Baseball. In a 14-season career, Cirillo was a .296 hitter with 112 home runs and 727 RBI in 1617 games. He was named an All-Star in 1997 and 2000. He is the Brewers all-time career leader in batting average at .306. He shares the major league record of playing 99 consecutive errorless games at third base with John Wehner. He batted and threw right-handed.

Professional career
With the Brewers, Cirillo collected a .300 batting average or better for three seasons, including a career-high .326 in 1999. The same year, he added 198 hits (also a career-high) with 15 home runs and 88 RBI. His most productive season came in 2000 with the Rockies, when he posted career-highs in RBI (115), runs (111) and doubles (53); finished with 195 hits, and matched his personal-best .326 average.

Before the 2002 season, Cirillo was traded to the Seattle Mariners in what would become the darkest period of his career. Cirillo was highly ineffective with the bat while in Seattle posting batting averages of only .249 and .205 in the two years he was with the team. He was traded to the San Diego Padres before the 2004 season, but was inactive most of the year with a wrist injury. He made history by becoming Randy Johnson's 4,000th strikeout victim on June 29, 2004.

Rejoining the Milwaukee Brewers in 2005, Cirillo saw a resurgence in his stroke and became productive once again while also providing solid defense.

Cirillo signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Twins in December 2006. He did not finish the season with the Twins and was claimed off waivers by the Diamondbacks on August 3, 2007. Cirillo stated that he would most certainly retire at the end of the 2007 season. He made the first pitching appearance of his career on August 20, 2007, against Milwaukee. He pitched one inning and gave up two walks and no runs while striking out one player, former Diamondback Craig Counsell. "He's way nastier than I thought he would be," said Bill Hall, who worked one of the walks. "I was shocked when I got up there. He's got a knuckleball, a slider, he was throwing some changeups. Those pitches make 84, 83 [mph fastballs] look pretty hard. I heard he was a better pitcher in college than he was a hitter."

Before the 2007 National League Division Series, Cirillo held one of baseball's most unwanted records. He had played in 1,617 regular season games, but never in the postseason. When his team made the playoffs, the title was passed to Damion Easley of the Mets who finished the 2007 season having played 1,593 straight games without a playoff berth.

Sportscaster
On April 2, 2008, it was announced that Cirillo would join Fox Sports Network - Wisconsin as an analyst for Milwaukee Brewers broadcasts. His first appearance was on April 18, 2008.

In Our Local News- The followup to the C. Patterson Case

I quickly investigated on the way to school. No easy task. It can be a madhouse over there where Patterson works... once worked. C.Patterson was last seen with "blood all down his shirt as he sat up on the gurney" outside of the ambulance en route to the hospital, according to a co-worker. At this time, none of the locals know where he has been taken. I shall try to find out soon. I will have the perfect opportunity tomorrow, for my son is going in for surgery at 8:30 a.m. ~Good luck Little Man, and God Bless. You are so loved. I will be with you all the way, kid. Love, Mommy~ While I am there, in the off time that I am not praying for my son, and pacing the hospital floors, I will investigate into my friend Charles' situation. I can get leads to other hospitals where he may be at. Is he dead, or alive? Time will tell. He was, is, a good and gentle man. More on him later. Good speed good ole Patterson... no matter what! -SDRoads

Friday 25 July 2008

Hello Welcomed Guests!

This will be a short day for me. I am not feeling so hott... actually, I AM feeling hot. I have the typical aches, fever, all of that stuff, that comes along with a cold. I have to leave the lab early and go buy lots of orange juice. I am already loaded up with chicken broth (Don't ask me how... yet! LoL) . While I am at it, I'll go ahead and get the supplies for the approaching weekend. Since I already know what I want to post today, I shall put it all in the order I would like for you to read it in, versus the usual reverse order it automatically gets displayed in.
I will be going on vacation soon. I won't be working on this site at all, for quite some time, from the time I call it quits until the end of summer. Scratch that, until Fall, sometime. I will definitely be back to cover current local, international, and family news.
Thank you for all whom have visited thus far. This site is still not officially opened. Basically, only a select few (given, a large number of select few) even know about this website, at this time. The official opening will be before Election Time. I would like to cover that ground. At that time, the site will become public.
It has been a joy working on this site, thus far. A friend of mine, along with another, actually, wants to add some elements to this site, so that it can be "unsurpassable" (Spell check please! Ha ha). They really see something in this site, something special. One of my friends told another gentleman something that I will never forget. He said that it is a good site, that he recommends it, and that "She's really dedicated to the site." (He said with quite the serious face, and expressive eyes.) It grandly appears they are as excited about this news blog as I am. That's great. Quite frankly, I don't care if this site is on the map or not. As long as you get a joy out of something... that is the most important thing. Because, at the end of the day, when all is said and done, and your number's up, you can't take it with you. ... all except the love. And that is my commentary. ... And yes, I still have those previous news stories piled up. LoL I seem to have everything piled up now, in plastic boxes, for I am moving very shortly, before I take my vacation. And for some odd reason, I couldn't seem to find any of my youngest son's sox ( I should have written it as "socks". I seem to like "x" es. Haha) today. LoL By the time I submit the stories, they will be old hat, old news, rather. Which reminds me, I have yet to finish the segment below about why I work on this site, why it is important to me. I shall quickly do that today before I leave. I hope you all have a grand day! Thanxx for your time and consideration.

You are very welcome, Mickey. Everytime I write your name, I think of Mickey Mouse. Haha That's a good thing. Mickey Mouse is a very sweet character. It is most serene. Recently I went to DisneyLand, and just yesterday, I went to Magic Mountain. We got to visit with Snoopy, twice! (I am 38, and I still love Snoopy and the Gang! Good ole Charles Shultz.) It was great! A great place to bring the family. It was through a school field trip for my youngest son. There were lots of kids there, in groups, on school field trips, each with their own specially customized matching colored t-shirts. It was like a rainbow of visitors. I was lucky, I was a Chaperon. All the basics were paid for my trip. But boy, do I have a story for you on how much it all ended up costing me in cash. LoL Where do you like to visit? Do you have any special plans for the summer? -SDRoads

Public Announcement
The above harassment has been going on for some time, and has become progressively worse. In part, it appears as though they want to help citizens. However, I feel it is just more scheming in my book, for if they truly wanted and want to protect people, they would not misrepresent who they are. I feel they are either connected to the people whom sent the original e-mail (not shown here) or ARE the same people. If people can gain one's trust, it is easier for them to get close, get what they need, (want, rather, for no one NEEDS to hurt others, in any way, unless for purposes of self protection and preservation), and sabotage your life, and the lives of others. There have been many e-mails sent out to many accounts. I have x'ed out certain parts of names and addresses for purposes of privacy and due diligence. I did not even want to read that e-mail in it's entirety, at that time. Stay safe, stay alert, stay strong! This is global. -SDRoads

McCain's Game

His gameplan:
SECURE THE CENTER,” LIEBERMAN AS V.P., 27-STATE BATTLEGROUND STRATEGY

FITSNews - March 26, 2008 - Even though former Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Lieberman has already ruled out running on a ticket with GOP presidential nominee John McCain, the Connecticut Senator remains the Maverick Republican’s top pick for the No. 2 slot, according to confidential campaign strategy memo showed to FITSNews last weekend by a McCain strategist.

S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford, whose political consultant Jon Lerner has been working full-time these days to secure Sanford a spot on McCain’s shortlist, did not appear among McCain’s top five choices according to the memo, which were Lieberman, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn.

“It won’t be Sanford,” said the McCain advisor, who showed FITSNews maps and excerpts from the memo, but would not provide us with a copy of the document. The advisor also confirmed that U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham offered Sanford a spot on McCain’s shortlist in exchange for his endorsement of the Arizona Senator prior to the South Carolina presidential primary this January. Sanford obviously refused that offer, reportedly telling Graham that he could “get on the shortlist without McCain’s help,” and that the only way he would lend his endorsement prior to the primary (which McCain won without Sanford’s help), was if the No. 2 spot on the ticket was offered.

In addition to addressing the VP speculation, the memo also suggests that McCain abandon the conventional GOP campaign stategy of “securing the right” (i.e. the party’s evangelical base) prior to focusing on independent voters during a general election. Instead, the three-word strategic theme of McCain’s campaign, “Secure the Center,” is a radicial departure from the campaign strategy employed by every Republican candidate since Gerald Ford. The memo also anticipates - and in fact seeks to stoke - the inevitable outcry such a centrist strategy would bring from conservative talking heads like Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh, noting at one point that their “vocal indignation” would actually help attract the more moderate voters McCain is targeting.

Most importantly from a tactical perspective, the memo more than doubles the typical number of states Republicans designate as “battlegrounds,” with 27 states falling into this category compared to the usual 12-14.

Pointing to two electoral maps shaded in colors of red (Republican states), blue (Democratic states) and purple (”swing” states), McCain’s strategist pointed to one map showing typical democratic strongholds in the Northeast and West Coast shaded blue, which he argued would be the electoral math facing Republicans under a conventional ticket using the conventional GOP “Secure the Right” strategy. He then flipped a page of the memo to show how dozens of those states turned purple when presented with a McCain-Lieberman ticket and a “Secure the Center” campaign strategy.

“Secure the Center puts a dozen new states in play,” he said, adding that “these are not swing states, these are Democratic strongholds now in play.”

Ideologically, McCain’s “Secure the Center” strategy would seek to play up the candidate’s maverick reputation and fiscal conservative credentials while de-emphasizing issues that appeal to evangelicals, a move his strategist says is reflective of shifting voter preferences in both parties.

Will it work? Stay tuned …

I first saw Jillian on Good Day Live, the national version of Good Day L.A. Each morning before school I would look forward to her loud and outspoken style. Even at the tender age of 9, I imagined that when I grew up, we would make the best of friends.

She was beautiful, Canadian, and a major shit stirrer. What’s there not to love? Between her marriage, battle with depression, and being adopted, Jillian did not hold back. If it was on her mind, it was on the air…often to the dismay of co-anchors and producers who couldn’t handle a woman who was smart AND opinionated. What blasphemy.

Now, some years later, I finally get to meet Jillian who is happily remarried to actor Grant Reynolds and the proud mama of one very pretty little lady named Ruby Raven Reynolds. Jillian was recently in Canada to promote Nutrisystem, which helped get her pre-baby body back. It was quite the trip – “I got to meet 30 relatives I’d never met before.” Her birth mom had 8 brothers and sisters!

In addition to the program, Jillian used a rather unorthodox method to get back in shape. She wore bikinis and other scantily clad attire around the house as to “catch glances of fat ass” in the mirror and get instantly motivated.

Our meeting/ brief platonic love affair (as I like to think of it) took place in the dimly lit Camera Bar. She sat on a stool with a “Ruby” necklace draped across her neck, tattoo on her ring finger, and wore a smart black cocktail dress with sky-high patent black Frederick’s of Hollywood pumps ($40!). Although she owned up to having a pair of YSL’s that look exactly the same.

Originally from Burlington and a graduate of Mohawk College in Hamilton, Jillian moved to the U.S. fifteen years ago to pursue a career in broadcasting and hasn’t looked back. She has hosted the TV show EX-treme Dating, and in 2002 began her hugely popular weather segment on FOX NFL Sunday pre-game show. In 2006 she also took part as a contestant on Skating with Celebrities and came in second.

While I tend to (silently) shun some Canadians who make the big move south instead of supporting the Canadian industry, in Jillian’s case there was nowhere else for her career to go. She also definitely does her part as a cheerleader for our nation whenever possible.

She loves Canada – Toronto especially. “Everything is so close – it’s so easy to navigate the city. LA is the home of strip malls, there’s no architectural integrity. We have no old places, no sense or respect of history.” She adds that there’s no way to get around without a car, and “‘down the street’ is twenty minutes from us!”

At the same time, as we’re speaking on the phone (during the second interview) Jillian is cruising home to the valley in 72 degree weather. “Everyday is a vacation filled with tropical breezes and palm trees.” Tough life! Though a part of her does long to spend her days in a Perry Sound cottage.

Despite finding major success in her chosen field, she still finds the attention odd. She recalls walking out of a restaurant the other day where Posh, Becks and Kate Beckinsale were dining, and being caught off guard when the paps started angling for her pic too.

These days Jillian’s got way more important things to worry about than publicity – like her adorable family; “I do my three hours and split,” she says. The day of our interview, Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard stopped by and the “hours just flew by.” Tough day at the office.

So in the land of stars, who does Jillian hang with? We’ve seen pics from her baby shower with Heather Locklear and in Vegas with Pamela Anderson. She was even featured in Pam’s show VIP as well as in Clueless the TV series and Melrose Place. Retired porn star hottie Jenna Jameson is also a friend. We even bond over our love for glossy Vivid porn as opposed to the amateur kind riddled with pimples and blemishes.

“Heather was at my wedding….I hung out with Carmen a lot, but your life changes. Now it’s all about my family, and it’s such a freaking cool place to be. We live in a small ranch house in the valley, I love it, and we’ve got this very freaking normal life. We just hang.”

Jillian is passionate about more than just her friends and family. She has always had a soft spot for rescue animals. At one point she had 11 (5 dogs, 5 cats, and a rabbit).

“My husband came into a petting zoo,” she laughs. Now they’re down to 2 dogs and 4 cats. She’s still very involved in pet rescue and hopes to some day teach Ruby the responsibility of caring for her very own animal.

What I’ve always found fascinating about Jillian is that she’s got a male and female following. This is no easy feat. Whether she’s ad-libbing on FOX or promoting Nutrisystem, men are drawn to her sense of humour.

In fact, Jillian hates the separation of women’s and men’s programming, “why spread the content?” she exclaims, puzzled by her own question. She talks about flipping through women’s magazines to discover featured articles like “how to have a great orgasm” and dismisses it as antiquated thinking.

As for why women like her, she believes its because she’s honest and forthcoming with her flaws. “Women in this business try too hard to conceal things. They won’t tell other women their secrets because they’re insecure.” This ranges from career tips to unwillingness to disclose a great hair salon. Interestingly enough, Jillian has found that “the bigger the celebrity, the cooler, nicer, and more secure they usually are.” Then her mood turns a bit sour as she recounts some not so nice folks in the industry she’s met along the way, although she’s quite sure that “those people end up in the gutter.”

Jillian’s a big believer in karma, “you give it away once and it comes back twice for sure,” and she’s got a “gazillion” examples to prove it. This had just happened on the air the other day. She was interviewing a guy from an auction house. “There was a bunch of shit on the table and we were talking.” She asked if he had any 60’s memorabilia as she collects anything having to do with Sharon Tait. She was in luck – he had a ring that had belonged to her.

Interestingly enough, Sharon’s sister Debra was watching the show (they’re friends) and she called Jillian up to tell her that the ring was stolen. Apparently, Roman Polanski had cleaned the house and packed all the clothing and jewelry himself. He had given their wedding ring to Sharon’s manager, and a young woman who was living with them stole the ring. “That’s karma! That kind of karma comes back to you.” Jillian is now in the process of buying the ring back to return it to rightful hands.

Now onto my favourite topic - Jillian’s style! Did you know that Jillian is single-handedly credited for the way women dress on American TV? Says who? Oprah. Not bad.

In a world of stuffy suits and mousy don’t-look-at-me women news anchors, Jillian donned a sweater set for a news broadcast and advanced the women’s movement by at least ten years. “I embraced my femininity and was able to deliver an accurate newscast.” Shocker! And she’s not stopping there. “I would love to do more, to have my own show.”

Then as quickly as it started our short affair seems to be ending – I can hear her hitting car breaks and entering her house where an excited Ruby is cooing. It’s clearly time for Jillian to move on for today. And that concludes a brief glimpse into her ever more complicated life – that Jillian just seems to keep living more simply and beautifully."

Ode To The Animals... And A Caretaker

...

Mrs. Jillian Barberie Reynolds has been awarded for her work, love, and dedication to animals. She has definitely earned it! She had started a Pet Adoption segment over a decade and a half ago (She's still young. LoL Haha That came out wrong. Sorry Jill. To be precise, it was "15 years ago", as she says... She gets the joke when she reads it.) on Los Angeles' Fox Channel 11. Good work Jillian. And Congratulations!!! Those are some lucky animals. This was another thing that brought a tear (of joy) to her eye, today, at the set of Good Day L.A. -SDRoads

Another Set Of Parents Cleared Recently

"Portugal Clears Parents in McCann CaseReutersposted: 2 HOURS 9 MINUTES AGOcomments: 342PrintSharefiled under: Crime News, World NewsText SizeAAALISBON (July 21) - Portugal's chief public prosecutor on Monday dropped the case on the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann pending any new leads and cleared her parents of suspicion of involvement.
The McCann CaseFamily / APProsecutors in Portugal closed their investigation into the disappearance of the British girl Madeleine McCann Monday. The case can be reopened if new evidence emerges. McCann vanished from an apartment in the resort where her family was staying on May 3, 2007.

Prosecutor Fernando Pinto Monteiro said in a statement a third suspect, Robert Murat, a Briton living in Portugal, was also cleared.
"The public prosecutor's office has determined that the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann be archived, due to the lack of evidence of any crime being committed by the suspects," the statement said.
"The case can be reopened by the public prosecutor's office, or following a request from an interested party, if new evidence materializes," it said.
Madeleine disappeared from her bedroom in an Algarve resort on May 3 last year, a few days before her fourth birthday.
The case has grabbed international headlines, especially after police named the parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, as suspects. Police have failed to find the girl or sufficient evidence to charge anybody and presented their final report to the prosecutor on July 1."

IN TODAY'S NEWS

For our Local, International, and Family News spot, this just in:

2 buses and 2 trains, TWICE, in one day!! SDRoads doing better.
Local kidnapping- A mother, whom abandoned her child after birth, has kidnapped him after requesting to visit with him, allegedly saying to the father, "You will never see him again.", and to the aunt, allegedly, "It is the only way I can make money." The aunt has pleaded on t.v. for people to help locate her nephew. She claims, as tears stream out of her eyes, lips quivering, "He is in danger. ... He is in danger!"
Local murder- Daughter pleads with a 911 dispatcher, asking for help. I don't want my mommy to die was the theme of the phone call. The girl called as her mother was being stabbed, repeatedly, with a SWORD, as their children looked on.
Local, and close to home, issue with bank- I'm talking Indy Mac. My father was warned by a BofA employee, after having taken out a large sum of his money and making mention he wanted to put the cash into an Indy Mac account, not to do it. He was warned to be careful. The employee knew in advance the sh## was going to hit the fan, over at Indy. My father was still interested in investing over there, but, never did. Luckily for him, his money is secure. Unluckily for all of us, the word is other banks will be experiencing similar problems, as well. We are not out of the woods yet. Fortunately, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are doing fine!

Gotta jet. -SD

The 10 Most Common Dream Symbols And Their Meaning
Cracking The Code To Common Dream Symbols
By Rebekah Musgrove

Dreams are more than unconscious thoughts that stream through our minds while we’re sleeping. They are “windows to the soul,” claims Dr. Charles McPhee, host of the nationally syndicated Dream Doctor Radio Show, former coordinator of the sleep research laboratory at the National Institute of Mental Health and author of several books on dream interpretation. How can you unlock the hidden meanings of the most common dreams, let alone remember them?

If your dreams always seem to fade away before you open your eyes in the morning, the following guide will provide you with tips for remembering and interpreting the 10 most common dream symbols.

Interpreting Dreams 101
The first thing you have to do before interpreting your dreams is remember them! If you’re a deep sleeper and you think you never dream, there’s good news. Everyone dreams, it’s just that not everyone remembers their dreams.

According to Dr. McPhee, the best way to recall your dreams is to simply try to remember the details as soon as you wake up in the morning. Because most people dream immediately before waking up, all it takes is a little concentration to clear away the cobwebs of morning delirium. This means waking up slowly and keeping your mind clear of the coming day’s worries. Most of us don’t need any coaxing to stay in bed for a few extra minutes after the alarm clock goes off, so seize this opportunity to start your day with some serious relaxation and meditation. You’ll be amazed how great your memory really is.

If you still can’t seem to remember the details of your dreams, McPhee suggests focusing on how you feel. Are you happy, sad, frustrated or worried? Being in touch with your feelings may trigger other memories of your dream once you’ve had your morning coffee.

Many people have a list of places they'd like to visit before they move on to the next world; here are a few American suggestions of my own.

For conversation's sake, I have avoided the obvious targets, but a stroll across the Golden Gate Bridge or a trip up the Empire State Building is still definitely worth it.

Though we are lucky to live in a beautiful country, I have mostly focused on smaller, manmade sites, simply because a catalog of pretty American places could stretch on forever.

This list is admittedly subjective, but comes from 30 years of professional wandering. Some places are more well-known than others, but all share a sense of tranquility and wonder.

And since I review small boutique hotels for a living, I have included nearby recommended places to stay. Happy travels!

1. San Francisco de Asis Church, Ranchos de Taos, N.M.
Famously painted by Georgia O'Keefe and described by her as "one of the most beautiful buildings left in the United States by the early Spaniards," this handsome adobe mission a few miles outside of Taos Pueblo yokes together a staggering five centuries of North American history.
Harper hotel: Casa de las Chimeneas, Taos.

2. Whaling Museum, Nantucket, Mass.
At its whaling peak during the first half of the 19th century, the small island of Nantucket had 88 ships scattered across the oceans. The Whaling Museum is wonderfully evocative of this era (plenty of scrimshaw and rusty harpoons), and out-of-season Nantucket Town, with its Greek Revival mansions and cobblestone streets, is equally enchanting.
Harper hotel: The Wauwinet.

3. Battery District, Charleston, S.C.
The historic Battery District of Charleston, South Carolina, home to dozens of stately antebellum mansions, is one of the prettiest U.S. neighborhoods I've ever explored. Follow the promenade along the shores of the Charleston peninsula; Fort Sumter, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired, sits broodingly across the Cooper River.
Harper hotel: Planters Inn.

4. Madison Valley, Montana
Montana's Madison Valley, which runs between the Madison and Gallatin ranges down to West Yellowstone, is magnificent Lewis and Clark territory. This is unspoiled land, vast and uncompromising — everything you hope Big Sky Country will look like.
Harper hotel: The Lodge at Sun Ranch.

5. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston
Housed in a charming Venetian-style palazzo, this gem of a gallery displays works by Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Whistler and Sargent. It's small enough to tour in an hour or so, and you can spend the rest of your time enjoying the sunny, flower-filled courtyard. And if your name happens to be Isabella, you get in free.
Harper hotel: XV Beacon.

6. The Four Seasons Restaurant, New York City
If you had to choose only one restaurant in New York City to visit, this would be the one. The city's prettiest dining room was designed by architects Mies van der Rohe and Philip Johnson, and astutely hasn't been touched since its introduction in 1959. The Pool Room is a study in muted sophistication, despite some of the outsized egos at the tables.
Harper hotel: The Lowell.

7. The Rothko Chapel, Houston
This small, non-denominational chapel located just off the Menil gallery in Houston's Museum District seems unassuming at first, but spend some time surrounded by the 14 mysterious paintings by Mark Rothko, and it may start sinking into your skin.
Harper hotel: St. Regis.

8. The Huntington Gardens, San Marino, Calif.
Huntington did quite well in railroads, and he's left us with a wonderful afternoon escape just outside of Los Angeles. After admiring some of the spoils of his industry — a Gutenberg Bible, a Shakespeare folio, Thomas Gainsborough's "The Blue Boy" — venture out into the superb botanical gardens, home to dozens of unique environments: an almost eerily authentic Japanese garden, a lily pond straight out of a Monet painting, and an entrancing collection of cacti.
Harper hotel: Hotel Bel-Air.

9. Robie House (Frank Lloyd Wright, Chicago
The Robie House, the world's first modern home, was designed in 1908 by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and still seems startlingly contemporary 100 years later; with its broad horizontal lines and sleek art-glass windows, it looks like a modernist yacht. Wright himself showed up to protest the planned demolition of the house (it was to be replaced by a seminary dormitory) at the ripe old age of 90.
Harper hotel: Four Seasons.

10. The Oregon Coast
Highway 101 along the Oregon Coast swerves through 360 miles of jagged cliffs, rocky outcrops, sweeping dunes and temperate rain forests. The coastline lacks deep harbors, so there are no large cities here — just old logging towns, fishing villages and the occasional artist colony. And the entire coast is public land, which makes for excellent picnic opportunities in rugged and remote spaces.
Harper hotel: The Stephanie Inn, Cannon Beach

Hi there.

I hope you all had a great weekend. My news stories are piling up. I still can not seem to post anything lately. And today, I am nearly out of time. I have to go catch a bus shortly. So, I will just post this greeting, and a couple of pictures. One picture I have been working on today I have entitled "Long Beach~ The Lightning Struck". The other is one my son drew. I have called it, "Baby Loves Home". It has to be edited. Someone threw it in the bathroom trash, so, I took it out, and put it up on the wall with a thumbtack. I am sure she didn't mean to do it. Now, it is water stained. That's o.k. I will fix it. It is important and special to me. I may not be by a computer tomorrow. I hope all goes well for you all. I will pray each and everyone of you are safe. I had a bit of a rough weekend- I even cried. But, I salvaged it by going to the beach with friends. Lightning did not strike yesterday. The weather was great. LoL Love, SD

P.S. It almost happened again. Sometimes what I save does not end up where I have saved it after I scan. I have a lot to do just to find it, and then, I forget how I've done it. LoL Well, this time, I found my son's drawing in time, but, noticed it was not automatically cropped properly, as, normally the scanned items are. Oh well, I'll fix that later, too. Bye for now.

Lou Smit vs. Steve Thomas

Thomas, who had never investigated a homicide in his life. Smit has
consistently had a 90 % plus record in solving cases over his lengthy
career.

Smit draws some support
Boulder's police chief still skeptical on intruder theory
By Todd Hartman, News Staff Writer
May 4, 2001

A handful of veteran Colorado law enforcement and legal figures are rallying
behind retired detective Lou Smit's belief that an intruder likely killed
JonBenet Ramsey.
They say Smit's views were dismissed by inexperienced Boulder investigators
who became so fixated on the Ramseys early in the case that they put more
energy into explaining away evidence pointing to an intruder than following
clues wherever they might lead.

"When I saw Lou's presentation, I was stunned, and frankly I was outraged by
the course this case has taken," said Greg Walta, the state's chief public
defender from 1978 to 1982 and an attorney who has both battled and
represented Smit in the courtroom.
"What concerns me isn't just that the Ramseys have been crucified," said El
Paso County Sheriff John Anderson, "it's that a killer is still at large.
I'm convinced of it."

"Lou Smit is the most ethical professional I've ever met," (Bob)
Russel (Smit's lawyer) said.

Smit's attorney, Russel, is a former district attorney in El Paso County who
held the office for two decades and was involved in some of the earliest
efforts to educate district attorneys nationally about child abuse.

Throughout his career, Russel said, he has never heard of another case in
which a parent garroted a child.
"When I first saw (Smit's presentation), this alone told me it could not
have been the parents," Russel said.
"(The parent) would have to start turning (the garrote) while the child is
grasping," Russel said. "There's probably tape over her mouth. She's alive
and squirming.
"That's sadistic intent. That's not the irrational anger you see in child
abuse."

El Paso Sheriff Anderson hired Smit to run the county's detective operation
after being elected in 1994. He calls Smit a "phenomenally gifted,
experienced, uniquely qualified violent crime detective," and supports him
in taking the intruder evidence public, a move typically frowned upon by law
enforcement.

This case is different, Anderson said, because a predator may be on the
loose and Boulder law enforcement isn't pursuing him. He calls Smit's
actions "very responsible."

Other supporters of Smit include Arapahoe County Coroner Michael Doberson,
who, like Smit, contends that a stun gun was used on JonBenet, and that the
blow to her head likely came just before death -- not long before as one
police theory suggests.

Steve Ainsworth, a Boulder County Sheriff's detective, and Trip DeMuth a
former assistant district attorney in Boulder, spoke on Smit's behalf on the
Today Show.
While declining to take a specific position on the JonBenet case, DeMuth
told the News that Smit "should be taken seriously." He called him the most
experienced investigator who worked the case.

"It's not only the fact that he has a tremendous amount of experience,"
DeMuth said. "He was amazingly successful in previous investigations. He has
probably a higher success rate than anyone else I know of."

"The world thinks the Ramseys did it," Smit said. "But if I'm right, there's
a very dangerous killer out there and no one's looking for the SOB."

An Interesting Realization

I find it interesting that the gentleman mentioned below in our missing person report, Steven Thomas, had founded a Boulder, Colorado based web security software company, and had become distraught and SUPPOSEDLY paranoid and then, ended up missing just before the breaking news in the JonBenet Ramsey case of John and Patsy Ramsey's widespread new found innocence. And that is my commentary. -SDRoads

Former Suspect John Mark Karr on the Ramsey Clearing

This is a rush transcript from "On the Record ," July 9, 2008. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, FOX NEWS HOST: Now, the last time the JonBenet Ramsey case shocked the headlines, it was thanks to John Mark Karr. Now, John Mark Karr was arrested in August of 2006 in Thailand after confessing to JonBenet's murder, and this was amid a spectacular media frenzy, including TV cameras on board his flight to the United States. The Boulder DA had flown John Mark Karr back to the U.S. and Karr was eventually released after his DNA did not match DNA found at the crime scene. John Mark Karr joins us live.

Nice to see you, John Mark.

JOHN MARK KARR, FORMER SUSPECT IN JONBENET RAMSEY MURDER: Nice to see you, Greta. Thanks for having me.

VAN SUSTEREN: So what do you think about today's announcement that -- a formal letter to John Ramsey that his family has been cleared?

KARR: Very pleased. I think that it should have been something that should have been done almost 12 years ago, and certainly two years ago, when I was arrested. But I'm extremely pleased that someone like District Attorney Lacy would acknowledge once and for all that this family and any members of this family is not responsible for their daughter's death, and their sister's death. It's just this should have happened a long time ago. I'm very pleased with that. It's a wonderful day that we can acknowledge that this family is innocent. They're wonderful people and they should never have suffered like they did.

VAN SUSTEREN: You know, John Mark, you and I have had an unusual -- we've done interviews a couple of times, and you know, it's always been sort of unusual in that I keep telling you I don't think you did it, but you keep dropping hints that you're the one who did do it. Now, your DNA wasn't found at the scene. That doesn't necessarily mean anything. But did you murder her?

KARR: Well, I'm not here to answer questions like that. I've already answered that question over and over, and I don't rescind anything that I've said in the past.

VAN SUSTEREN: But you've never said yes or no to me. I've never gotten a yes or a no out of you. And I just sort of want to -- you know, if I can just figure it out because that'll give me at least some sort of direction where I should go with the next question.

KARR: Well, you know, I don't think that's a yes or no question, Greta. If it was, then I would say yes or no. I don't think that I've said yes or no in 2006, did I?

VAN SUSTEREN: I -- certainly not to me.

KARR: And I don't think that I ever have.

VAN SUSTEREN: Can you explain -- most people deny crimes when they're accused of them, you know, innocent and guilty ones. A lot of them deny it. You don't deny it, though, do you?

KARR: That's -- I don't think that's true that most people deny things that they've done, that they take responsibility for. There are a lot of people who take responsibility for their past actions. That's not true that most people deny things. If a person takes that responsibility, then that's what they do. I'm not the only person who's taken responsibility for my actions.

VAN SUSTEREN: Do you think that the D.A. should arrest you?

KARR: I think the D.A. already arrested me.

VAN SUSTEREN: Again?

KARR: And I think that...

VAN SUSTEREN: Do you think she should again?

KARR: I think that the DA needs to do what they feel is right. I'm not here to talk about -- you know, I think the news today is that the Ramsey family has been granted at least some degree of closure, not complete closure at all, but I think that it's very important that someone like Mary Lacy, who is the district attorney in Boulder, would acknowledge that they are innocent.

VAN SUSTEREN: Is the reason...

KARR: It should have been done a long time ago. That's what the news was today. The news today has nothing to do with DNA. The news today is that there is someone in Boulder, Colorado, named Mary Lacy who's a district attorney who finally, after almost 12 years, acknowledges that this family is innocent.

VAN SUSTEREN: Is the reason, John Mark...

KARR: And they are and they always have been.

VAN SUSTEREN: Is the reason, John Mark, that you were arrested is because you had written something to someone indicating intimate knowledge about something with the crime that nobody else knew except for the person who did it? Is that what got you arrested?

KARR: Yes, that's my understanding. Absolutely.

VAN SUSTEREN: Well, now, that's odd. I mean, it's odd that you would have this intimate knowledge. It's odd that your DNA is not there. It's odd that you won't say yes or no. I mean, there are a lot of -- I mean, this is a very peculiar situation with you.

KARR: I just think that there's a time and a place to say yes and no, and I don't think that that question -- first of all, I think it's a -- it's a very -- it's a question that doesn't have a yes or no answer. I answered as best I could in 2006 in front of probably 150 cameras.

VAN SUSTEREN: Indeed, there were a lot of cameras.

KARR: I don't see any reason that I have to do that again because I'm telling you I'm not rescinding what I said. But I think the important thing here is that this is a process, and whatever process the district attorney sees appropriate to take, then that's what they're going to take.

VAN SUSTEREN: All right. John Mark Karr, thank you for joining us, and good luck. And it's always nice to see you. Glad you came back. And sooner or later, this case will be solved. Thank you, John Mark.

KARR: Thank you.

I just can't seem to do it today.

I just can't seem to focus on the news right now. I still have so much I wanted to report on... The stories just lay in my notebook... I am so drained... and inspired at the same time. -SDRoads

Coffee Break Is Over

One more thing before my coffee break out by the fish pond in the garden...

something well needed in a time like this... Someone I know sent me the following web address and asked if I would view it. It's, to me, controversial, however, I feel the need to share with you all all things of the world. By my putting up the site's address, here, it in no way means that I condone the actions nor the attitudes of the people mentioned within the following site. Thank you for your understanding. ... As a matter of fact, I have not even viewed it fully myself yet. -SD

This is all a bit draining.

I wanted to report about the local fires now, there are some very interesting statistics, but, I think I will just take a coffee break. The reason it is all so draining is because it all hits so close to home. I better hurry. I will have to be leaving this lab soon. -SD
