My Mother, My Hero

In watching the news tonight, a story sparked a memory of discomfort and, at the same time, a hopeful happiness for me. My mother saved my life twice, at least. Once, on the East Coast when she saved me from, whom the police suspect, was a serial child abductor and murderer, according to descriptions and mo. The second time was when we lived on the West Coast and she did all she could to have us escape from the infamous Night Stalker. She has even been a security officer for a major motion picture studio here on the West Coast. The apple does not fall far from the tree. She has often said I am so much like my dad, the man she has loved and been married to for 40 years. But I got a sneaking suspicion that I am a lot like her, too. ;) I love my parents!! :) Yep, she is my heroine and I am grateful to her. Thanxx Mom! *SDRoads

To Celebrate

It was a most lovely day, my youngest son*s birthday. He turned 7. He is so special. He is the gift to me, though it is his birthday. Everything today was so pleasant, peaceful, and special. Everyone who celebrated his birthday was surrounded by that pleasant, tranquil peace the entire day. It was like an all day birthday party celebration, even when he went off to school. It was a very warm and beautiful day. It started by him being awoken to the sounds of loved ones singing Happy Birthday. Then, he was toddled out to the dining room table topped with a multicolored breakfast donut and candle, along with a gift bag full of wrapped gifts he was allowed to open before school. At school, he was King for a day, adorned with a crown. He was a wee bit sick today with sniffles, but no fever. His teacher, who looks like a lovely Armenian and Egyptian blonde Barbie doll, is quite fashionable and sweet. She was very understanding that Shane could not complete all of his homework last night, due to his coming down with the sniffles, and told us that Shane was just not himself today when the sniffles hit harder but he tried. She told us she told him, "You can do it. You can do it.", as she warmly smiled. I decided Shanathan will miss school tomorrow and sleep in, since he did get worse while at school. The teacher sent him to the school nurse. They decided to let him stay in school the remainder of the school day because he had no fever and he was up to it. He loves school so much. After school, he was whisked to the local Walgreens to spend his 20 dollars he got as an additional gift in his birthday card this morning, any way he wanted. After window shopping, he picked one large gift instead of 3 medium sized gifts, in order to save money, so that he could treat us to an after school/birthday ice cream at the local ice cream shoppe of 31 flavors. Aaaww How sweet and generous. This evening I baked a cake with a special recipe I created. We shared it with others. It tasted with a velvety smoothness, and presented with the colors of Fall. It was a day full of love. One nice little girl gave my Shanathan a small but most precious gift of of two red heart elegant looking lolly pops wrapped in a beautiful plastic covered with hearts and tied with a red ribbon into a bow. And, it just so happened that the birthday gift wrap set of 3 I bought had hearts on two of them. Interestingly, one wrap had Christmas candles, hearts, and the words "happy birthday" all over it. How interesting. And that was a nice surprise to see because when I picked out the gift wrap set of 3, I only noticed the traditional Happy Birthday paper with the words printed in colorful bubble like fashion. I noticed the detailing of the others as I sat down to wrap the presents at my dining room table. I think that the little neighbor girl is waiting to present Shanathan with the birthday gift at the party we will be throwing, and gave him the lollipops in the meantime. We saw her and her mom shopping after she asked him what he likes. He just recently started school, 2nd grade (aaaww, my baby boy), and we want to throw the party when he can invite old and new friends, alike. I got a present, too. His sniffles. Haha And, yesterday, I presented with a slight sore throat. Tomorrow will be a cozy relaxing day. He can do his homework lessons later in the day, relax, gently play with his new toys, all after sleeping in late. He always feels better after sleeping in after he becomes sick, and very rarely ever has to go to the doctor for colds and flus. Today was an intimate day full of love, family and friends who are close to us, good cheer, and peace. Thank you, God, for such a lovely day for us all. Actually, that peace, cheer, and intimacy started late last night, on Shanathan*s birthday eve. Just another beautiful day for the Roads family. I am thankful to God, also, that my baby has made it to seven years old, safely, and without incident, unlike some unfortunate children of all the world, such as JonBenet. But her sharing and caring spirit is not forgotten. Thank you, God, for giving me the gift of my son, the gifts of my children and grand children. In Jesus' sweetest name, Amen. Love, SDRoads
