A Mystery To Me

...

As many of you know, one Mr. John Mark Karr had opened up a forum on his website, www.johnmarkkarrnow.com, back in September of last year. At this particular moment, the site is down, again. Hopefully, it will be back up and running in no time. It is quite exquisite, in my opinion, anyway. It has a propensity to go up and down like that, in more ways than one, almost like a roller coaster. I feel that, overall, anyone whom visits the site would be greatly blessed and enriched. A lot of good stuff happening over there. However, the consensus by a pretty sizable amount of folks over at some other popular forums, feel differently. I think, really, they are more confused, if anything else. Which brings me to the thought that I have heard spoken a few times through out my years on this great planet. And that thought is, "People fear anything they don't know... Then they start hating." Now, I personally think that is an absolutely ridiculous thing to do. How can one truly judge something without knowing it? How can a proper analysis of the subject matter be made? But, I digress. The ultimate reason for this editorial is to share that there is one more mystery outside of the Whodunit of JonBenet Ramsey's, dare I say, murder? There is also the mystery which lies beneath the surface of John Mark Karr's words himself. This is nothing new. I feel, it is designed that way. And, I have a hunch my feelings are correct when he flat out states things such as, it is meant to be that way, at least, something along those lines, right there, within the constraints of his forum's topics. The most interesting thing is his choice of wording, particularly in the statement below:

“It is my wish to offer a memorial to a child I loved dearly”, said Karr. In an opening statement on the website’s homepage, Karr expresses, "I wish, with all my heart, to reach out to her family – their hopes for closure seemingly dashed but with such potential for restoration. Closure is a complete understanding of those things that were once a mystery and the chance to focus forgiveness on the one who takes responsibility for the most unfortunate tragedy." (JMK)
-Quote derived from an press release found in the website, PR Leap- Accelerating Search Visibility

It is, for me, a mystery in what the above words mean in all actuality, "to focus forgiveness on the one who takes responsibility for the most unfortunate tragedy." And that is my commentary. -SDRoads

Jonathan? Or Elvis?

O.k. y'all, I just couldn't help myself!!! The guy is amazing! -SD

Wow!

"Dane, I'm like a teacher and a student over here!", I chimmed, as I excitedly rubbed my hands together, like I just came into some money or somethin'. LoL I made the man in Administration laugh a hearty laugh. I just taught myself how to glow! -SD

SEE?

Two O'Clock and All's Well!

Well, that guy in Administration is still goin' strong. I asked him, "Do ya get tired of continuously answering the same question?" He laughed a soulful laugh and said, "(undetectable sound) it makes ya feel important." I laughed with him. "... or feel something!", he added with a chuckle. He went on, "It's embarrassing. I should have realized something was wrong when my wife dropped me off and there were only 2 cars in the parking lot." Even HE forgot it is Flex Day! LoL He has to keep explaining, or should I say "splaining" (I LOVE LUCY), to confused students, current and potential alike, why the school is closed today. And me, I'm still workin'. It's amazing how much work one can get done when school is closed. Haha Too bad I don't get any credit for it! -SD

-----------------------------------------
The Update: I had a bright idea! I'm trying to get credit for all this time I just invested on this computer. That's 5 hours! I got him, like the only other person here, to sign a letter for me addressed: To Whom It May Concern. Let's hope it works. I really want Friday off! The guy had to step away for awhile. I'm startin to feel like I work here now! LoL Now people are approaching me with the confused looks on their faces, askin' questions. And... the radio still plays... "A white sport coat and a pink carnation...". Ahh, the oldies! -SD

What would you have done?

"They say, "she never fought back.", as though that is a measure of honor. And, to some extent, it is. I want to say, I would have gone down fighting. But, perhaps she was too afraid to fight, using psychology. Maybe she figured if she fights back, they'll get worse." by SDRoads, in an earlier post.

With regard to the beating the Victoria received, and the type of, after careful review of the video, scratch that, after the third review, for the first 2 left me stunned in sheer and utter disbelief, these are my conclusions:

I would have picked up the first "weapon" I could find, blocked my face, pushed the girl off of me the way a fighter does when he leaves his hands up in front of his face to protect himself while still being able to multitask, grabbed the handle of that door, and hi-tailed it outta there! F@#& standing there conversing. But, again, I think she did what she thought was best. It's a sad day and age when you have to go packin' just to visit a friend's house. Be careful, very careful, whom you choose as friends. And that is my commentary, SDRoads

Hey, let me know what y'all would have done, in this instance. Simply click on "comments" below, within this post. Thanxx. -SD

O.k. So the question remains...

Were the two boys actually NOT the look-outs to the crime, at the crime scene? This is one thing I really want to know. -SD ... Oh yeah, and I can't believe how much action is going down at the public forums, reminds me of the JonBenet Ramsey case. -Roads

Polk County Nightmare Continues

Photos from the Polk County Sheriff's Office

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd today released a portion of a video of what he described as the "animalistic" beating of a 16-year-old girl by other teenagers.

Victoria Lindsay received a concussion, damage to her left eye and ear, and numerous bruises during the March 30 beating in Lakeland, which lasted about 30 minutes, the sheriff's office has said.

Judd said Lindsay still hasn't recovered full vision in her left eye or full hearing in her left ear.

According to one of the eight teenagers the sheriffs office charged in connection with the beating, Lindsay had been speaking ill of the other girls on her MySpace page. One of the teenagers told investigators they intended to record the beating on video and post it on MySpace and YouTube as retaliation, Judd said.

Judd said he would not release the tape in its entirety because that would fulfill the teens' aim. However, he thought it important to release a segment because "There's also the concern that we need to educate the parents about what their kids are doing."

Judd also said he thought YouTube, MySpace and other social networking sites have moral, ethical and perhaps legal obligations not to post videos of such fights. "It makes it cool and it creates copycats," Judd said.

The video shows Lindsay being beaten at 6124 Calendar Court W. and her attempts to escape being blocked, a sheriff's office report states.

According to the report, Lindsay told investigators the girls taunted her during the beating, saying they were going to post video of the attack on YouTube and MySpace.

But the mother of one of the girls said Lindsay had provoked the other teens by threatening and insulting them on the MySpace social-networking Web site.

"She embarrassed these girls," Christina Garcia told News Channel 8 in an interview. "She said she was going to kick their you-know-what's, and how slutty they are, and calling them much worse names than sluts."

Investigators last week charged eight teens in the assault: six girls — including Garcia's daughter, Mercades Nichols, 17, — whom they say beat Lindsay and two boys whom they say acted as lookouts. All are charged with felony battery and felony false imprisonment.

Three of the girls, including Nichols, 17, are also charged with felony kidnapping. The other two are Brittini Hardcastle, 17 and Britney Mayes, 17.

One of the boys, Stephen Schumaker, 18, of 6020 Calendar Court W., is free on $5,000 bail after being booked into the Polk County Jail, records show. The other teens were booked into the county's juvenile assessment center.

Lindsay had been staying at the home of Nichols' grandmother during spring break. About 8 p.m. on March 30, while the grandmother was at work, Hardcastle and Nichols called and sent text messages to Lindsay saying they wanted to talk to her at the house, Judd said. "What she didn't know was there were four other girls hiding in there."

At the house, Hardcastle and Nichols yelled at Lindsay, who went into a bedroom, Judd said. There, 14-year-old April Cooper struck Lindsay several times in the face and slammed her head into the bedroom wall, knocking her unconscious while the others took video the beating, Judd said.

When Lindsay awoke, she was on the couch in the living room, surrounded by Cooper, Nichols, Hardcastle, Mays, as well as Cara Murphy, 16, and Kayla Hassell, 15, Judd said.

The video clip Judd showed began with Lindsay on the couch and Hardcastle yelling and striking her. Lindsay got up and said, "You want me to leave; I'll go home." But the girls said she wasn't going anywhere. Hardcastle continued to hit Lindsay, while saying things such as, "Fight back! You have to fight back!" and, "What, you gonna cry like a little girl?"

Judd said there was no evidence on the video that Lindsay tried to fight back.

At one point, Lindsay backed into a corner by the front door near a glass bookcase holding knickknacks. "Don't hit the shelves! Don't hit the shelves!" Nichols yelled.

The other girls yelled for Lindsay to fight back, saying, "It's perfectly fair! It's one on one!"

Before the clip ended, Murphy, who was operating the video camera, said, "There's only 17 seconds left. Make it good."

Judd said investigators analyzed the video frame-by-frame and found other portions where the girls took turns striking Lindsay while others held camera phones or the video camera.

The grandmother was mortified by what had occurred and is cooperating with law enforcement.

Schumaker's father, Robert, denied his son's involvement in the incident, saying neighbors had told the Schumakers that Stephen and the other boy were not at the house acting as lookouts.

Garcia also denied that the other boy, Zachary Ashley, 17, was involved in the incident, saying surveillance video from his job can prove he was at work.

Asked about the boys' claims they were not there, Judd said one of the boys stuck his head in from outside and told the girls to quiet down because neighbors could hear the fight.

Garcia said she was ashamed her daughter hadn't called the police, but she also thought the Internet was to blame. She said children shouldn't get online and say bad things about each other.

"That's a recipe for disaster," she said.

Judd said after the teenagers were arrested, they were laughing together in a holding cell, saying, "Am I going to miss cheerleading practice?" and "I guess we're not going to the beach this week."

"That absolutely makes my blood boil," Judd said. "It's incumbent upon us as a society not to accept this."

It's even worse watching the "excerpts"! -SD

When watching the whole thing, it drives the issue home even more. They say, "she never fought back.", as though that is a measure of honor. And, to some extent, it is. I want to say, I would have gone down fighting. But, perhaps she was too afraid to fight, using psychology. Maybe she figured if she fights back, they'll get worse. And, I believe the child when she says she didn't post those horrible things about the girls, that her myspace had been hacked into. But, I must admit, the monst-e-rous tyrants seemed hurt, too. Again, this whole thing sickens me. Parents, get a hold of your kids and ALL of what they are doing! The Internet can be a dangerous place, among other places, such as YOUR OWN LIVING ROOM! Stop this before it gets worse. Reduce your kid's freedoms before it is too late. THEY ARE KIDS, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! And that is my commentary- SDRoads

Deputies: Teens Made Video of Beating For Web

By NEIL JOHNSON | The Tampa Tribune

Updated: 04/06/2008 08:08 pm

TAMPA - Six teenage girls took turns punching and kicking Victoria Lindsay while others made a video recording of the beating, which went on for 30 minutes.

Two other teens kept watch outside, even knocking on the front door to tell the girls they were making too much noise and that neighbors were becoming curious, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

Stephen Schumaker

While they were beating her, the girls taunted Lindsay, bragging that they were going to post video of the attack on YouTube and MySpace, according to an arrest report.

Deputies last week arrested eight teens accused of taking part in the March 30 beating, which left Lindsay with a concussion, damage to her left eye and ear and numerous bruises, the sheriff's office reported.

Stephen Thomas Schumaker, 18, of 6020 Calendar Court W. in Lakeland, was arrested on charges of false imprisonment and battery. He was one of the lookouts, according to his arrest report.

Schumaker was released after posting $5,000 bail, jail records show.

Schumaker could not be reached for comment Sunday night, but his father, Robert, said his son had no involvement in the beating.

Robert Schumaker said he talked to neighbors who told him his son was not at the house acting as a lookout.

"They didn't do anything," Robert Schumaker said of his son and another teenage boy, also arrested and accused of being a lookout. "I would like for the detectives to listen to the neighbors and clear my son's name."

The six girls accused of attacking Lindsay were arrested on the same false imprisonment and battery charges, both third-degree felonies. The teens, whose ages are unknown, were charged as juveniles and booked into the Polk County Juvenile Assessment Center.

Lindsay's father said the teens attacked her to make a video that might become popular on YouTube, the video-sharing Web site. But the mother of one of the girls arrested said Lindsay had provoked the other teens by threatening and insulting them on the MySpace social-networking Web site.

According to Schumaker's arrest report, here's what happened:

Lindsay showed up at a friend's house on Calendar Court, down the street from Schumaker's, where she had been staying while having problems with her parents. Her friend and another girl started yelling and threatening her. After walking into her room, Lindsay was confronted by another girl, who insulted and threatened her. The girl hit Lindsay in the face several times, then slammed her head into the wall, knocking her out.

Lindsay woke up on a couch surrounded by six girls, who took turns punching and kicking her. She tried to leave several times, but the girls held her down and blocked her from leaving.

The girls drove the victim to another house and let her get out of the car, but with the warning: "If you go to the police, the next beating will be worse."

Deputies recovered the video, which shows the beating and the teens blocking Lindsay's attempts to escape.

The sheriff's office is expected to release the video and a transcript early this week.

My take: Look, after asking how he doesn't understand how he is involved in this, and stating how wrong it was for the girls to do that, he surprisingly added, "This is little girl stuff!" After viewing the video umpteen times, I mean, it IS blasted all over the news, "little girl stuff"? I think not!!! My heart goes out to Victoria and her parents. God be with you. -SDRoads

Flex Day

Well, I just found out what Flex Day is. I overheard someone in Administration speaking to some lost people, telling them what it is, and why the school is closed. You should see the looks on the people's faces as they roll on in here. I know, I was one of them. Only, I had the funny look on my face outside of the Administration buildin'. By the time I walked in, I was over it. All this, and I actually had the chance to experience Flex Days of late! LoL It's like the Twilight Zone in here, now. He said something about "The school is closed (ever so matter-of-factly, with a look of surprise on his face. Haha)... with the other campus... they have to learn how to use all the programs (Oh, how funny, a classmate of mine just rolled in. "Did you forget today is Flex Day?", I asked. "Yep", she sparked. How she knew to come in here, I'll never know. LoL She's busy like me. Which reminds me, I still owe her the pink pen I borrowed.) and have to figure out a way to (use) the debit cards without having to call the 800 number." Uh-oh. You see, that's what I am about to do next. Only, I have to activate my new FDIC Checking Account card. Who knows, I may be sitting on 400 and 44 dollars. That, coupled with my tax refund, will make me set! Haha. Yeah, right! In today's day and age, you need a helluva lot more than just over a grand to be set! And that is my commentary- SDRoads

My Patsy

Hi y'all. I'm a lucky girl today! Today is Flex Day at my school, and I have forgotten. I'm not exactly sure what it means, but, it happens once a month. I trekked it all the way down to the campus for nothing? Nah. I lucked out. I have been given permission to use a computer in Administration. At least I can get some work done, even if I can't really do my lessons. So, they got the radio on, see. And they're playin' Patsy Cline as I tap away at the keyboard. Again, lucky girl! And how is your day goin' so far? Simply click on the comments section within this post, tap away, and share your day. Have a great one, SDRoads, Administrator
