Subject: Meeting Minutes March 23, 2010

Good evening everyone! Hope everyone has been enjoying the beautiful weather. Here are this week's minutes from the meeting:

-We would like to thank everyone who came out on Saturday for the Ballona Wetlands trip.  I wasn't able to make it, but I heard it was a lot of fun and a big success.  Also, we need to give Candice a very special thank you for all her hard work in putting together a great trip even though she wasn't able to attend it.  This upcoming week I will be working on putting together a video from some footage and pictures from the trip.  If anyone has any images they would like to be included in the video please send an email to this address and I will incorporate them. If you are interested in volunteering at the Ballona Wetlands or the Los Angeles Audubon, (http://www.losangelesaudubon.org/

- At the beginning of the meeting everyone introduced themselves and suggested an eco-related website to check. Here are some of the suggestions:
www.kpfa.org, www.betterworldshopper.com, www.calflora.org, www.lacoastalgardens.com, www.treehugger.com, and www.care2.com

-Tomorrow, Saturday March 27th, is Earth Hour. For one hour in each area of the world, participants will be shutting off their lights. The world will be powering down during 8:30p-9:30p in each time zone. Please help out by turning off all electronics, lights and anything else that needs electricity for this one hour. More information can be obtained at http://www.earthhour.org/

-April 22nd is Earth Day. This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the event.  For information on local Earth Day events, check out: http://www.earthday.org/

-At this week's meeting we came up with a few suggestions for possible events we a club could do. They included a trip to an Eco-friendly home, another trip to the Sepulveda Basin to clean up trash, and an E-Waste collection day (E-Waste consists of electronics and other types of man made materials not easily recycled).  If anyone has any other suggestions please feel free to attend one of our meetings and share your suggestion(s), or contact us via email.

-Joy wanted to let us all know that the California Student Sustainability Coalition will be holding their annual spring convergence next month in San Diego.  The dates for this will be April 30th-May 2nd. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend. Here's their link for more info: http://www.sustainabilitycoalition.org/

-Just a few updates from some of the other clubs on campus:
-José from TAE wanted to inform us of the Apple Award Elections on April 19th/20th and the Apple Awards Ceremony on May 5th
-José also wanted to let us know about TAE's ongoing FOOD/BOOK drive. I've included their flyers as attachments to this email. Check it out if you can donate please do.
-Bernice stopped by to tell us about a new club on campus, Speakers for Sustaibability.
