On July 4, 2006, shortly after 1:30 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to the area Carson Boulevard and Cherry Avenue regarding an injury hit and run accident. The victim, 22 year-old Joseph Perez of Rancho Dominguez, was engaged in a verbal altercation with the suspect who eventually backed his vehicle up before accelerating forward striking Perez head-on with his vehicle.
