I had a chuckle over this headline on Google News: US to Shoot Down Its Own Spy Satellite. I could think of numerous similar headlines, like:
US to Put Diplomatic Foot In Its Own Mouth
US to Wreck Its Own Major City
US to Botch Its Own Foreign Occupation
US to Destroy Its Own Currency
US to Hollow-Out Its Own Industrial Base
Etc.
